Vestibular Migraine

Migraines can be debilitating in their own right – add dizziness, vertigo and balance issues to mix and it makes a bad situation worse.

Vestibular migraines are difficult to diagnose and often lead to lingering issues with dizziness, vertigo and balance which can last indefinitely. Often, these lingering issues are dismissed as vestibular migraine and something which needs to be tolerated.

Unfortunately, the condition is not fully understood but like many vestibular issues, vestibular migraine leads to a disruption in the information going between the vestibular system, eyes and brain causing dizziness, vertigo and balance deficits.

Thankfully, we can help these symptoms and alongside general migraine prevention can get some great results.

Managing the migraine triggers and symptoms goes a long way to helping the overall condition. In the first instance this means trying to identify and manage the migraine ‘triggers’. But this isn’t always possible or sufficient. Thankfully the advances in medications, the use of electrical stimulation and Botox can offer some further relief.

However, the dizziness, vertigo and balance issues need to be managed and treated separately to get the best outcomes. If left unchecked, the symptoms can just persist and make life miserable.
